Welcome to The Nerdy Vet

Welcome to The Nerdy Vet. My name is Chris and as well as being a small animal vet, author and app developer, I love all things technology and, well, just a little bit nerdy.

I am always interested in hearing from you, whether it be to discuss arranging something like a school talk, or to get all nerdy over app designing, or even vet questions. There are a number of ways to get in touch – email, Twitter or LinkedIn.

    1. No worries Max. It was a pleasure meeting you and well done again on being so proactive. I have every confidence that you will succeed đŸ™‚

    1. Hi Andy. I don’t actually have any active involvement with the apps anymore, so I have no idea. I would, however, be interested in hearing your ideas for useful features as I may well develop my own line.

  1. Hi Chris,
I’m a vet graduate student, How can i get small animals surgery trainee-ship. I would like your suggestion.

    1. Hi Sohail. Thank you for your message and question. The answer to your question is “it depends.” Are you looking to do an internship or residency at a university? An internship in private practice? In what country? In a particular specialism/ field? Small animal? Large animal? So many questions…..

  2. Hi Chris. Ur blog is amazing. Loved reading it. Very informative n interesting !!!!!!! I’m a practicing small animal vet based in Mumbai, India n have post graduated in Veterinary Surgery in 2010. Planning to settle down in Dubai soon. Can u please guide me regarding the approximate pay structure n accomodation facilities for non-UAE vets relocating there. Eagerly awaiting for your reply. Thank u.

    1. Hi Ami. Thanks for your message and good luck for your move to Dubai. The pay really does depend on the clinic you work for and the individual arrangement you have with them, including what proportion of your package is accommodation and transport allowance and what is actual salary. As for accommodation, I can only speak for myself when I say that I have arranged my own and that the options for places to live are plentiful, so it really does come down to personal choice and budget. Hope that helps.

  3. Hi Chris
I graduated from veterinary school in Africa. I want to apply for small animal internship in UK, and I should be registered and take registering exam. The question is this exam have four topics hourses and large animals…, etc. Why should I study for a different topics if I want to be small animal vet?

    1. Because to be licensed in the UK you need to satisfy the Royal College requirements, which means showing day one competency in ALL aspects of veterinary. Beyond that I would suggest directing your enquiry directly to the Royal College. All the best with your applications.

  4. Hi, I’m a vet student in iran and I’m already searching about the rcvs exams. What i really want to know is if there’re any specific textbooks for each subjects of the syllabus that the rcvs has released.
I’ll be thankful if you could send me at least the titles of each subjects preferred textbooks to study from !!

    1. Hi Mohammad. Great question. I am not personally aware of any specific lists of recommended textbooks to use to prepare for the RCVS exams although there are many superb textbooks out there ranging across all subjects and disciplines. If you were to purchase books for every subject then to be honest you’d end up spending an absolute fortune – just ask any vet student – and I doubt there’s really any need for you to do so. You may be better advised to email the Royal College directly with this specific question as they may be able to direct you either to books or useful online resources.

      1. Thanks for the response! I tried contacting the royal college but it wasn’t helpful neither. I think the best way for me is to find a vet who has been able to pass the exam recently and ask him/her about the textbooks and also the practical exams preparation …
        Thanks again though !
